Bolton NHS Foundation Trust Wax Removal Service

The Audiology department at the Bolton NHS Foundation trust provides an ear wax removal service however patients need have their ears checked for wax before wax removal can be performed.

Patients can call in to the Audiology Department during the following hours to have their ears checked for the presence of wax:

Mon –Thurs                    9.30-12.30              or             14.00-16.30

Friday                            9.30-12.30              or             Closed PM

Please note that the above times are ONLY to check for wax and not to undertake wax removal.

If wax is present and the patient is complaining of hearing loss, tinnitus, otalgia, or vertigo, then arrangements will be made for wax removal to be undertaken via microsuction at either Breightmet or Horwich Health Centres.

There is currently a 4 month wait for wax removal to be undertaken but this is improving.

Patients who do not have any of the above issues but have ear wax are not eligible for wax removal under NHS services but can elect to have their wax removed by the Audiology service for a fee.
