Message to our patients – update on the COVID-19 booster programme - The NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.  All adults are eligible from Monday 13 December, and you will be able to book via the National Booking System from Wednesday 15 December.  You can book your booster for 3 months from the date of second vaccine, and you can access the National Booking System to book the appointment from 2 months. The NHS are working at pace to increase the availability of appointments so that there are plenty of options for people on the National Booking System. New appointments are being added every day across our vaccination services. Further availability will come online from Wednesday 15 December.  You can also attend a local walk in clinic - click on this link to see the latest clinic venues and times.  

We will be working with all of our sites to take further steps to increase what they can offer again, including opening later and on more days.  All of these appointments will be added to the National Booking System and so we encourage everyone who is aged 18 and over, is yet to have their booster and who is approaching 3 months from your second vaccine to use the National Booking System to arrange your appointment when you are able to do so.  In terms of any planned appointments with the doctors, nurses and other clinical staff at the surgery, there are no changes at the current time and everyone should attend your planned appointments as normal. If we need to make any changes, we will contact you directly.

Children (aged 11-25) experiencing mental health issues

Children experiencing mental health issues can access an online support on the Kooth website Home - Kooth.

Parents & carers (aged 26 and over) can access an online service to help parents/carers of children experiencing mental health issues.  Qwell offers Bolton parents and carers aged 26 and over professional digital counselling and emotional support, if they are helping to support their child’s mental health or if they need direct emotional support for their own mental wellbeing.

The free service is accessed via the Qwell website 

Parents & carers (aged under 26) with children experiencing mental health issues can access support on the Kooth website.

NHS Digital General Practice Data for Planning & Research

From 1st September2021, NHS Digital will collect data to support a wide variety of research and analysis to help run health and care services.  In additions, the service will also help to support the planning and commissioning of health and care services, the development of health and care policy, public health monitoring and interventions and enable many different areas of research.

Anti-abuse campaign for GP practices launches 20.05.2021

 Majority of GP receptionists face unprecedented levels of abuse at work, new research shows

The campaign has been launched as a new survey launched today shows 75% of GP receptionists reporting experiencing daily abuse from patients. With the majority (78%) facing threatening behaviour, racist or sexist abuse from patients, and 83% reporting having called the police for help, today the Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM) launch their campaign to end all abuse towards general practice staff.

The aim of our campaign is to highlight the good work practices are doing, and make a plea to the public to be patient with our staff, instead of attacking them. GP staff have worked throughout the pandemic and have done their absolute best to support patients. We’re calling for the abuse to end now.

  • Robyn Clark, a practice manager in South Gloucestershire and one of the founders of the IGPM commented: “As demand for GP services has increased dramatically over the last year, sadly so has the amount of abuse practice staff have faced." 
  • Nicola Davies, a practice manager in Cornwall and founding member of the IGPM said: “We hope that by raising the personal effect of abuse on staff, we can encourage patients to be tolerant and understanding. Our staff are doing their job. It is never a personal vendetta to stop a patient from accessing healthcare.” 
  • Kay Keane, a practice manager in Stockport and Director of the IGPM said: “A man attended our practice with six knives because he didn’t get the treatment he wanted. He smashed up the waiting room and threatened staff members. It was a scene we never want repeated in GP practice. It was terrifying and unnecessary. But we also know this is extreme. Bad language and threats are an everyday occurrence, and it is unacceptable.” 
  • Jo Wadey, a practice manager in Worthing and founding member of the IGPM commented: "Receptionists are leaving their roles because of the abuse they receive, which means we are continually trying to recruit and train, which puts a huge strain on practices."
