Message to our patients – update on the COVID-19 booster programme - The NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities.  All adults are eligible from Monday 13 December, and you will be able to book via the National Booking System from Wednesday 15 December.  You can book your booster for 3 months from the date of second vaccine, and you can access the National Booking System to book the appointment from 2 months. The NHS are working at pace to increase the availability of appointments so that there are plenty of options for people on the National Booking System. New appointments are being added every day across our vaccination services. Further availability will come online from Wednesday 15 December.  You can also attend a local walk in clinic - click on this link to see the latest clinic venues and times.  

We will be working with all of our sites to take further steps to increase what they can offer again, including opening later and on more days.  All of these appointments will be added to the National Booking System and so we encourage everyone who is aged 18 and over, is yet to have their booster and who is approaching 3 months from your second vaccine to use the National Booking System to arrange your appointment when you are able to do so.  In terms of any planned appointments with the doctors, nurses and other clinical staff at the surgery, there are no changes at the current time and everyone should attend your planned appointments as normal. If we need to make any changes, we will contact you directly.

You can now register to receive information by text message on your phone regarding appointments and health care. 

New Data Protection Regulations from May 2018 (GDPR)

Under the new data protection regulations introduced from 25th May 2018, we will continue to contact patients via text messages regarding the delivery of care if they have provided consent to do so.

If practices are sending messages about recommended treatment for the management of a specific health issue, then this is defined as providing appropriate care for patients, not marketing purposes.

If you would like to opt out of any future contact via text messaging, then please contact the practice.

General Practice Data for Planning & Research (GPDPR)

From 1st September 2021, NHS Digital will collect data to support a wide variety of research and analysis to help run health and care services.  In additions, the service will also help to support the planning and commissioning of health and care services, the development of health and care policy, public health monitoring and interventions and enable many different areas of research.

The current NHS Digital (NHSD) extract of GP data for Research purposes (known as the GPDPR) has been delayed due to NHSD wishing to review the way in which this data will be collected, to conduct more public involvement and information about the plans and change the way in which patients can opt out of the extract of their GP data.

 Currently the only way to opt out is to complete a Type 1 opt out form and return this to the practice by the 1st September.  However, this extract will not be taken until the NHSD have changed the way it will take the data and respect the patient’s choice for using their data.  NHSD are introducing the following changes to the opt out process which will mean that patients will be able to change their opt-out status at any time::-

  • Patients do not need to register a Type 1 opt-out by 1st September to ensure their GP data will not be uploaded.
  • NHS Digital will create the technical means to allow GP data that has previously been uploaded to the system via the GPDPR collection to be deleted when someone registers a Type 1 opt-out.
  • The plan to retire Type 1 opt-outs will be deferred for at least 12 months while we get the new arrangements up and running and will not be implemented without consultation with the RCGP, the BMA and the National Data Guardian. 


This means that you can opt out at any time in the future and NHSD will delete data that they already have taken for research purposes, the deadline of the 01/09/2020 has been delayed until a new system of opt out is developed.  Hopefully, this will be a simple centralised approach via the NHS app or NHS website to avoid paper form and administration work for your GP.

 We will update you when we know more about the NHSD plans to change how you can control who has access to your data.
